European Bittersweet, Solanum dulcamara.
This is the Pacific Northwest’s local version of
Atropa Belladonna or Deadly Nightshade.
Both from the same family, nightshade, Solinacea, which brings us potatoes, tomatoes and eggplant. All of these have poisonous plant parts so I guess were used to it…. right?
Don’t fret too much though, this species of nightshade is only considered mildly poisonous at best.
If consumed though, especially by children, 911 should be called at once!
